Using Mumble
Overview:
Mumble is an open source, low-latency, high quality voice chat software primarily intended for use while gaming.
Low-latency, high-quality voice communication for gamers. Includes game linking, so voice from other players comes from the direction of their characters, and has echo cancellation so the sound from your loudspeakers won’t be audible to other players.
UPDATE: If you are experiencing a “referral was returned from the server” error, update to the most recent version listed below.
Click one of the links below if you already have mumble configured.
Server: mumble.trampletheweak.info or vx37.commandchannel.com
Download Client:
Client for Windows: Version 1.2.3a .exe
Quick Install:
- Download Mumble v1.2.3a
- Install and run the wizards: Configure>Audio & Certificate Wizards… (create your certificate and set your ptt key)
- Start the client and then Server>Connect>Add New…
- Servername: Trample the Weak
- Address: mumble.trampletheweak.info or vx37.commandchannel.com
- Port: 31325
- Username: your forum or game name
- Connect.
- Right click your Name>Self>Register…
- Talk.
- Restart your game client if you want the overlay to work.
Some Tips:
- To set your PTT key or push to talk key: Configure>Settings>User Interface… then edit or add the appropriate key
- To test your mic and/or ptt key: Configure>Settings… Then toggle the advanced view at the lower left. Now you can see Audio Output>Loopback Test… Don’t forget to turn it off afterwards
- Overlay settings are found at: Configure>Settings>Overlay… From here you can move, scale and save your overlays for different titles.
- Save your certificate to a flash drive or email it to yourself for future re-installs. Also, registered users with a cert don’t need to worry about server passwords.
- Unless you play in a professional grade sound booth… please set a PTT key! (see #1)
- Clicking the status monitor on the front page also connects you. A great way to get a friend connected quickly.
